Dowling College is a private, 4-year, not-for-profit college founded in 1955, located in Oakdale, Long Island, New York, initially named Adelphi Suffolk College. It was the first four year college that offered liberal arts degrees in Suffolk County. In 1986, it became Dowling College, named after Robert Dowling, the chief benefactor at the time. The college is organized in four school: School of Arts ans Science, School of Aviation, Townsend School of Business and School of Education. It currently offers its students a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, including the MBA, and popular programs in education, aviation technology and the liberal art. The college has two campuses, which are: The Rudolph Campus, located just 50 miles east of Manhattan and just minutes from the ocean beaches, on Long Island, and Brookhaven Campus, located 18 miles east, on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley.
Dowling College's athletic teams are called Dowling Golden Lions. In 2006, Dowling College's men's soccer team won the Division II National Championship, which represents one of the team's most notable achievements.
Dowling College has produced thousands of alumni, over the years, among the most notable ones being: Stephanie Finochio - Professional wrestler and stunt woman, Mark Mathabane - South African writer and human rights activist, Wilberto Ortiz - Professional baseball player with the Washington Nationals, and Scott Rudolph - Chairman of the Board and CEO of NBTY Inc, among others.
